Tenants Take Part & Pass!

Tenants Take Part and Pass!

Date Posted: 24th of April 2013

We are pleased to announce that six of our tenants have now completed the Chartered Institute of Housing Level 2 qualification. This qualification is a great way to gain a better understanding of housing and introduce the skills and knowledge to allow tenants to participate in housing related activities.

Tenants that have already completed the qualification will now be invited to join our new Tenants Scrutiny Panel. Tenants are under no obligation to join our Panel but it’s a great opportunity for them to become more involved.

Margaret Marmion, one of our residents, spoke with our Tenant Participation officer, Georgia Boswell recently, “It’s a very interesting, challenging but worthwhile course that provides valuable experience in light of the Scottish Social Housing Charter. The Housing Regulator wants tenants to be involved and I found this course to be the perfect starting point.

She continued, “The course encourages you to use the social landlords website. You get the opportunity to have hands on experience in issues which come under the umbrella of Asset Management, and it prepares you to become involved with the Scrutiny Panel which is a new concept to involve tenants. Tenant Scrutiny and landlord self-assessment are key priorities of Scottish housing, I felt this course gave me the basic knowledge and confidence to work alongside Caledonia’s staff.”

For tenants who choose to join the Scrutiny Panel, their key roles will be to challenge the Association in discussions and act on the feedback from group events and surveys. They will be responsible for reviewing the annual Tenant Participation Action Plan and will be the editorial Panel to produce our first Tenant Participation Annual Newsletter.

Margaret continued, “In the best interests of your community, become involved and do this course. You will have the support of a tutor and the others in the group. Don’t miss the opportunity.”

If you would like more information on how to get more involved, contact our Customer Services Team on 0800 678 1228, who will put you through to our Tenant Participation Officers.
