CHA Tenants become Film Stars
Date Posted: 14th of May 2013
Over the past 6 months HELM volunteers alongside Caledonia tenants, from the Dundee sheltered housing schemes of Mulligan Court, Fintry and Muirlands; have been involved in a joint filmmaking project, which developed from Caledonia’s tenant Reminiscence Groups.
HELM gave their students hands-on training in order to make a documentary type film. This included the technical skills necessary to produce a film and the communication skills to engage with the tenants and interview them. The idea behind the film is to look at the difficulties young people have today when trying to find a job, compared to the experience of our tenants finding employment in the 1950s. It has also looked at the different mind-set and attitudes between today’s youngsters and older people.
HELM is a charity based in Dundee, which provides a creative supportive learning service for people who face difficult barriers to developing sustainable careers. HELM and Caledonia have successfully worked together on a number of projects and the filmmaking project was supported with funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
The filming is now complete and around fifty tenants were involved. There will be a Premiere of the documentary held at Dundee Contemporary Arts (DCA) on Wednesday, May 29, 2013, starting at 10am until 12 noon. If you would like to come along to see the film, transport can be arranged through Gary Flew our CHA Volunteer Coordinator on 01382 237179.
