Funding Enables Tenants to get on their Bikes
Date Posted: 2nd of August 2013
TENANTS within our Dundee sheltered housing can now benefit from using one of our individual pedal exercise devices, which were purchased with money from the Reshaping Care for Older People Fund. The pedal exerciser is designed to be used in the privacy of a tenants home. The user sits in the comfort of their own chair, they can watch television, listen to music, or even read a book at the same time. These devices are particularly helpful for people with limited mobility.
The action of pedalling with the feet helps maintain muscles which may not get the exercise that everyday walking normally provides. It also increases blood flow to the limbs, which is often reduced in people who need to sit for long periods of time. There are 3 pedal exercisers on trial at the moment and an additional 3 on order. If you would like to find out more please contact our Volunteer Co-ordinator, gary on 01382 237179 or you can contact Gary on his mobile on 07817 279 946.
