Mulligan Court and Caledonia Volunteer Services Host a Successful Afternoon Tea Dance in aid of Local Charity

Date Posted: 1st of March 2016

Mulligan Court in Lochee, Dundee was the venue for a lively and well attended afternoon tea dance on Friday 26th February. The Tea Dance hosted by Caledonia Housing Association Volunteer Services was in aid of Mulligan Courts fundraising efforts for local charity, Roxburgh House, with over £100 raised.

The dance was well attend by Mulligan Court residents, their friends, family with visitors from Monifieth also joining in the festivities. Their £1.50 donation provided teas, coffees, sandwiches and cakes followed by the entertainment.

The highlight of the entertainment was 89 year old Nelly Wright, of Mulligan Court, taking centre stage to delight everyone with a couple of songs on the spoons, which everyone joined in with. With the sing song complete residences took to the floor for a few dances.

Kelly Hoskins Scheme Manager at Mulligan Court said “It’s lovely to play host to the extended community from across Dundee & Angus in a tea dance that provides fun and enjoyment for our residents whilst evoking such a great sense of community spirt”

Caledonia’s Volunteer project is working with older people throughout the community to reduce social isolation, bringing communities and people together through a variety of events like the afternoon tea dance held today.

This afternoon’s tea dance provided just that when cousins Margaret and Charlie both bumped into each other at the tea dance after not seeing each for years, apart from at funerals. The pair enjoyed a great, unexpected catch up over the tea and cakes.

Volunteering at these events provides many benefits and couldn’t be easier. Martin one of the Volunteers at today’s event said ”This is my first time volunteering and it’s braw. I’ve just retired and this is a great way to keep me busy!”
