Newhouse Road Regeneration Begins with Family Fun Day

Date Posted: 1st of March 2016

Ivor Goodsite was the special guest in attendance at the Newhouse Road Family Fun Day on Friday 19th February in Perth marking the official start of the Regeneration of the Newhouse Road.

The Half Term Family Fun Day was a collaboration between Caledonia Housing Association and Keep Moat, the appointed contractor, to involve the community in the commencement of the work on the redevelopment project which began on the 22nd February, with external scaffolding up today the 1st March.

Ivor met the children at the Newhouse Road Community Flat to tell them all about the importance of being safe around building sites, especially scaffolding.

Ivor was joined by face painters and there was craft stations for the children to make their own drawings. The day was well attended by the community and proved a great success with the children commenting that they loved meeting Ivor and having their face painted.

Linda Young, Project Leader for the Newhouse Regeneration said “It was lovely to host a community event, seeing everyone getting involved and more importantly hearing the children of Newhouse Road have fun learning about the importance of building site safety with Ivor Goodsite.”

The regeneration project will begin in blocks 1-11 with blocks 23-33 following thereafter. The anticipated 100 week schedule of work will see the refurbishment of 69 homes. Once refurbishment is complete works will begin on the demolition of block 13-21 and the rebuilding of approximately 15 new homes.

We have ensured all residents will be decanted to properties within the street while the improvement works on their properties are carried out. This has been a major achievement in our endeavour to ensure minimal disruption for tenants.

Julie Cosgrove, Caledonia’s Chief Executive said, “Tenants are at the heart of everything we do and all tenants and residents affected by these proposals will be fully informed to help make the whole process stress free and uncomplicated. I believe that this regeneration strategy is the best way to ensure we can bring the changes people have told us they want to the area, including more high-quality housing; tackling anti-social behaviour and improving the community.”

Dedicated Officers have been and will continue to be available to support tenants through the whole moving process where they will receive timely, one-to-one advice on their housing needs and options. As well as financial support and advice from on-site Caledonia staff, notice boards and consultation.

This is an exciting time for Caledonia and our tenants, our plans recognize the need to provide new homes, invest in our existing homes and to support vibrant communities. We hope the community engage with this process so that we can reach solutions that meet their needs and reinvigorate the Newhouse Road community.
