Caledonia HA response to Fire Safety Concerns

Caledonia HA response to Fire Safety Concerns

Date Posted: 23rd of June 2017

Following the tragic events that took place on June 14th at the Grenfell Tower fire in London, Caledonia Housing Association would like to reassure all tenants and residents that we are never complacent about the safety of your homes.

Although our procedures are strong and buildings designed to meet safety standards we don’t want to be complacent so in light of the events that took place in London we intend to conduct a thorough review all our arrangements and consider any improvements to be made, in line with best practice. We will report these findings to you via our newsletter and website.

In the meantime please be reassured that we have an extensive range of fire safety and prevention measures in place including regular inspections that adhere to building inspection and maintenance regimes created in line with regulatory requirements.

In turn we would like to remind all our tenants and residents of their personal responsibilities to regularly test smoke alarms along with the importance of keeping fire doors closed at all times as these are designed to contain a fire should one break out.

We would also like to ask our tenants and residents to work with us to help support fire safety in their building by keeping communal areas, stairwells and passageways completely free from items and making themselves aware of fire procedures in their buildings. Fire action notices are displayed in communal areas outlining steps to be taken in the event of a fire.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service offers free home fire safety visits to provide useful fire safety advice and to help minimise the risk of fire. If you would like a visit, please feel free to call 0800 0731 999, text “FIRE” to 80800 from your mobile or fill in a form online at http://www.firescotland.gov.uk/your-safety/hfsv-form.aspx.
