Sainsbury's Hot Cross Bun Generousity
Date Posted: 22nd of April 2020
We were delighted to collect an amazingly generous batch of freshly baked hot cross buns from Sainsbury’s Dundee. The generous supermarket had got in touch with us about the donation the previous day and provided an amazing 182 packets of hot cross buns for the association to distribute amongst its elderly residents.
Caledonia organised the packets of buns into delivery drop offs at retirement living developments at Alexander Street, Martingale Gardens and Muirlands in Dundee as well as retirement living developments in Monifieth and Newport along with their shared equity owners at Northwood Court in Broughty Ferry. All deliveries and drop offs made with social distancing in mind, with buns were left on door steps of delighted residents.
Rachel Martin, from Caledonia Housing Association commented “We are so pleased Sainsbury’s got in touch. It was lovely to be able provide some of our older residents with an unexpected treat and spread some social distanced happiness. We are delighted Sainsbury’s thought of us and our residents.”
The act of kindness did not go unnoticed, with residents getting in touch to thank the association and Sainsbury’s for the thoughtful gesture. Mrs Cosgrove, a resident at the Muirlands development commented “What a lovely thing to have done, especially as I haven’t had any cakes or treats for a few weeks. Please give a big thank you to all involved.”
Sainsbury’s Dundee Store Manager Jordan Mudie’s focus during the store’s busy time is ensuring the store retains its focus on community endeavours. Talking about the donations Jordan said “We are really strengthening our ties with our community to support those most in need and those who are out supporting us through these unprecedented times.
Caledonia is an example of a partner we have who support elderly and vulnerable residents and it is these people we need to remember in times like these. We all hope at Sainsbury’s Dundee the residents enjoy a bun or two!”
